The Human Development
Index (HDI) measures the overall achievements in a country
in three basic dimensions of human development - longevity and heath,
education and knowledge and a decent standard of living. The HDI and
Gender Development Index (GDI) have improved in the last decade, but
these continue to be low compared to even some countries in the region.
